VISUALIZATION MATERIALS FOR NARRATIVE TEXT

It is often assumed that we can tell students to "make pictures in their heads" as they read and they will know how to do that. However, many students have difficulty with this, and need to be explicitly taught strategies for visualization. We created two mnemonic strategies to help students learn how to visualize the characters and settings in narrative text. The two acronyms we created are CAGES for characters, and TWICE for setting.
