COMPREHENSION STRATEGY INSTRUCTION (CSI)

Explicit instruction on comprehension strategies, such as summarization, questioning, and clarifying, is an evidence-based practice shown to improve adolescents' understanding.  Comprehension strategies, when practiced sufficiently to generalize, can improve performance in all content areas. Each strategy should be practiced to mastery using warm-ups in preparation for Reciprocal Teaching.

CSI is important for both reading interventionists and content area teachers.
